Book Description

After returning home from the Great War, Nick Carraway moves to New York City where he rents a place in West Egg, Long Island. His new neighbor, Jay Gatsby, seems to have it all – he is young, extremely wealthy, and people come from miles around to attend his wild parties. One morning, Gatsby’s chauffeur arrives with an invitation to attend a “little party”. That night, Nick’s life changes forever as he is pulled into Gatsby’s world. Later, when Gatsby asks for an introduction to Nick’s cousin, the wealthy and beautiful Daisy Buchanan, who lives directly across the bay, Nick begins to see that things are not always what they seem.

Widely considered to be one of the greatest American novels, The Great Gatsby is a powerful critique of America’s obsession with wealth and power. This edition is based on the novel’s first publication in 1925 and includes over 700 footnotes to help readers understand the narrative and its context in the Roaring Twenties and the American Jazz Age.
